Rogue by Kayla Gray

I'll admit it. I've only read one other historical, and it was SO NOT my cup of tea, but Kayla Gray has given me a reason to go out there and try it again! Rogue was absolutely fantastic, and you just HAVE to read it. If you like Pirates of the Caribbean, you'll love this, so much more! I will definately be reading more works by Kayla Gray in the future. :-)

Historical Romance

The year is 1713, and Colby Matthew Leighton finds himself in London shortly after his mother’s passing. He has only one thing on his mind, to find and kill his mother’s secret lover, Lord William Montrose, who is also his father’s killer. However, upon arriving at Lord Montrose’s house, one rainy, dark night, Cole comes to find that Lord Montrose has a bastard son, who has only been using his father’s name, in order to one day kill the true Lord Montrose and take what is his.

As it turns out, the fraud who is using Lord Montrose’s name, is also a pirate, and one of the cruelest and worst, at that. He takes no prisoners, and leaves not a single survivor, and goes by the name: Dragon. So, it is up to Cole to find this man, and make him pay for the affair had with this mother.

Four years later, in North Carolina, a young woman, Bailey, finds herself the victim of a pirate attack, just barely escaping her burning house, as well as the foul pirate, who had intended to have his way with her. While trying to run to her closest neighbor’s house, Bailey loses conciseness, only to wake up aboard what she believes to be a pirate’s ship. It is rather the ship of one Colby Matthew Leighton. Cole has questions for Bailey, because the pirate from the night before is the one and only Dragon, and now Cole wants answers concerning the attack, and anything and everything she knows about the Dragon and his pirates.

From the moment Bailey awakens, she is sassy and stubborn, both of which Cole finds amusing as well as annoying. All that Bailey sees in him is “pirate,” as she knows absolutely nothing about Cole or his intentions. However, the longer Bailey stays around, on the ship with Cole, the more Cole remembers his past, and just why it is he is after the Dragon. It also seems that the longer Bailey is on the ship, the more Cole feels the need to guard his own heart. He can’t let what happened to his father, by fault of his mother, happen to him. It has always been so easy for Cole to meet women from port to port, and then to turn and walk away upon departure, but now…Cole’s not so sure.

But as it is, the Dragon has never left any of his victims alive, until Bailey became the exception the night she got away. If she wants to live, Cole is the only person in the world who can assure her safety from the man who murdered the rest of her family.. If she wants to live, Cole is the only person in the world who can assure her safety, as the rest of her family was murdered, the night she got away. The question remains: what will happen between Cole and Bailey as they continue to fight against one another, especially as their feelings grow strong.

Kayla Gray really has a way of pulling you into the past, while you read. She has written an exceptional novel filled with pirates, suspense, mystery, and romance Rogue has a fully developed storyline as well as fluidity. Cole and Bailey are the perfect dynamic duo, and with both of them having strong spirits and short tempers, it makes for some interesting interaction between the two. You’ll want to read Rogue in one full sitting, as it is definitely a keeper! Kayla Gray is a riveting new voice in romance, and she is sure to be one of your new favorite authors!
