The Price of Eternity by Devyn Quinn

The Price of Eternity was one of those books that really has a lot of punch. And I mean right in the gut. Devyn Quinn astounds me with every story of hers I read. She writes eloquently and intelligently, and has an incredibly powerful descriptive ability. Her Eternity series is a wonderful mix of fantasy and gothic romance, and is a complete and utter literary masterpiece.

Fantasy Romance

Julienne Blackthorne is in complete and utter agony after waking up in an underground room, a room where the terrible sorcerer Xavier has the bodies of the dead thrown away, forgotten. Xavier had thought her dead, and reveled in the pain he caused his enemy, Morgan, who witnessed her "death" as well. Julienne can feel Xavier’s conjured demon twisting painfully inside her ribcage, the place where the creature had clawed its way inside her body. She may not be dead, but she will be soon, as the demon will continue feeding on her body until she is nothing but a lifeless husk. She feels no hope for herself, but she wants nothing more than to see Morgan before she dies, so she pulls herself up and starts her painful search in a desolate land she knows nothing of.

Morgan is devastated by the death of Julienne, the one woman who ever truly held his heart. He has never held any care for his own life, but now he genuinely has nothing to live for. His only hope is that his death comes after he has exacted his revenge upon Xavier, consequentially preventing Xavier's plans to ravage Earth. For the veils between worlds have aligned, and there is nothing the mortals of Earth can do against the hell that is about to be unleashed upon their world.

While Morgan and Julienne are in their own personal hells, Xavier is already beginning to recover from the injuries he was dealt by Morgan. While his injuries were severe, they have strengthened him in resolve and in the solidity of his plans. He seeks the Scrolls of Cachean, ancient writings hidden for thousands of years. They were wisely hidden by wizards, for the scrolls contain the key to unlocking unimaginable power. With one ghastly spell, Xavier is about to discover the location of the scrolls he has spent years searching for…

The Price of Eternity is the brilliantly dark sequel to Keeper of Eternity, and thankfully Devyn Quinn does not plan on it being the last book in the series! Enter the sinister realm of Sclyd, where power and survival are key in a land being ravaged and left barren by an uncontrollable force. We see both Morgan and Julienne’s characters reach new depths, and as we find out revealing details of Morgan's past, we better understand his motivations. The Price of Eternity is not the usual sugary sweet fantasy romance, and every aspect of the book is beautiful in its darkness. Devyn Quinn writes compelling characters, a chilling and gripping story, and a setting that is easily seen within your mind’s eye. Let The Price of Eternity pull you through the veils between the worlds, and invoke your imagination like never before.

The Price of Eternity

The Scrolls of Cachaen.

Remembered only as legend, these writings gathered by an obscure sect of wizards were hidden because of the diabolical forces they could unleash from the netherworld. Lost for eight millennia, the resting place of the scrolls is accidentally discovered by Xavier D'Shagre. Wounded and dying, the sorcerer seeks to possess the writings to restore his waning magic. Revenge fires his hatred, lit by Morgan Saint-Evanston, the assassin who murdered Xavier's beloved wife, Nisidia.

Xavier vows he will not rest until his enemy is dead.

The sorcerer's search for the scrolls is discovered by an unlikely source: Julienne Blackthorne. Believed dead, her body was tossed into a charnel room. Alive amongst the reek of the battle dead, she seeks to escape her hellish incarceration. Time is against her, for she carries the embryo of a vampiric daemon that will consume her if it is not fed human blood. Julienne must escape Xavier's dungeons and find Morgan, her last hope for survival in the realm of Sclyd.
